Connect to Community, in partnership with the Village of Hoffman Estates Commission for People with Disabilities and the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization (NSSEO), announces its sixth annual Transition Summit.

On the agenda …

SSI, SSDI, HFS: Understanding the Alphabet Soup of Government Benefits presented by Sherri Schneider, President, Family Benefit Solutions. This interactive, informative session will help you understand the who, what, where, and when of the major government benefit programs. A large emphasis will be placed on IL Medicaid, which is needed for waiver programs. Updated rules will be provided and, ending in a game of Benefit BINGO, you will be amazed at all you have learned.

Special Needs Trusts and Related Planning Options presented by Attorney Nancy Spain, Co-Founder, Spain, Spain & Varnet. The presentation will include: an overview of special needs trusts, identifying the various types of special needs trusts and when to use each type; how and when to establish a special needs trust; funding and administration; and how ABLE Act Accounts can enhance the benefit of a special needs trust.

Retiring for Three: Planning Tips for the Special Needs Parent presented by Mary Anne Ehlert, President & Founder, Protected Tomorrows, Inc.  An in-depth, interactive, and educational look at what “Retiring for 3” really means, providing important facts about retirement planning when you also have a child with a disability. 

Simplifying the Complex: The Essential Elements of a Special Needs Plan presented by Mike Walther, President & Founder, Oak Wealth Advisors.  A comprehensive review of the information that families need to improve the planning for their loved one with special needs, highlighting the opportunities for the greatest impact and how to avoid the most common mistakes. Mike will field questions to ensure that attendees leave feeling equipped to address their own family’s unique planning challenges.

Families, educators, service providers and community members are welcome. Registration fee of $20 includes morning refreshments, lunch, and seminar materials. CEUs/PDs may be requested during registration.
